Terms of use

Rowline is in private beta and is run by one person, not a company. This is a plain-language draft of the working agreement between you and Rowline. It is not legal advice and has not been reviewed by a lawyer. It is written to be honest about what a beta can and cannot promise.
Using Rowline means you accept what's below. If any of it doesn't sit right with you, please don't use it, and do tell me why at feedback@rowline.app.
1. This is a beta
Rowline is unfinished software being tested by a small group. Features can change, break, or disappear. The service may be paused, altered or shut down at any time, with or without notice. There is no service-level promise, no uptime commitment, and no guarantee that a feature you rely on today will still exist next month. There is no paid plan at the moment; if that ever changes, it will be announced before it applies to you.
2. Check Rowline's output against your original pattern
This is the important one.
Rowline reads patterns automatically. Automatic reading gets things wrong. Rowline is built so that it tells you when it is unsure rather than inventing an answer. It will leave a stitch count blank, suppress a symbol, or refuse to draw a chart instead of guessing, and it makes you review every extracted row before you can follow it. That review is not a formality. Rowline's output is a convenience, not an authority; your original pattern is the authority. Before you cut yarn, buy materials, or rely on a count, check it against the original.
Rowline is not responsible for a project that goes wrong, materials that go to waste, or time that is lost, because you followed Rowline's rendering of a pattern rather than the pattern.
3. Your data can be lost
Rowline saves your projects in your own browser's storage. That storage is not durable. It can be wiped by clearing your browsing data, by private browsing ending, by your browser reclaiming space, by a device reset, by reinstalling the app, or by switching to a different browser or device. Projects saved in one browser are invisible to another.
No guarantee is made that your projects, notes or progress will survive. Use the "Download backup" button and keep the file somewhere you control. If you sign in and sync, that is a convenience and a second copy, but it is still not a backup guarantee.
4. Patterns you import
You are responsible for having the right to use any pattern you put into Rowline. Import patterns you wrote, patterns you bought, patterns that are free to use, or patterns you otherwise have permission to use. Do not import a pattern you have no right to, and do not use Rowline to strip a designer's pattern of its attribution or to redistribute it.
Rowline claims no ownership of anything you import. It does not train anything on your patterns, and by default they never leave your device. See the privacy page for exactly what does and doesn't.
If you use Rowline's export or "share pattern" features, what you do with the result is on you, and the original designer's licence still applies to it.
5. Acceptable use
Please don't:
- use Rowline's website-import endpoint to hammer other people's sites, to reach private or internal addresses, or to get around a site's access controls;
- try to break, overload, probe or reverse the service's server endpoints;
- upload content that is illegal where you are;
- use someone else's account, or share a sign-in link that isn't yours;
- use Rowline to redistribute paid patterns you don't have the right to redistribute.
Access to the beta may be withdrawn if any of that happens.
6. No warranty
Rowline is provided "as is" and "as available", with no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. Nothing here tries to exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded where you live.
7. Limits of responsibility
To the extent the law allows, Rowline is not liable for lost projects, lost progress, lost time, wasted materials, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from using or being unable to use the service.
8. Your account, if you have one
Signing in is optional. Sign-in links are sent to your email and are single-use; treat them like a password. You can sign out at any time, and you can ask for your account to be deleted by emailing feedback@rowline.app.
9. Changes to these terms
These terms may change during the beta. The "Last updated" date at the top is how you'll know. There is no mailing list, so that date is the only notice mechanism there is. Continuing to use Rowline after a change means you accept the updated version.
